INADEQUATE

Have you ever felt like you are competing for attention? Fighting for space in one’s life? Have you ever felt that no matter what you do, nothing seems to be good enough? That, no matter how much you try, you just seem to be Inadequate; always lacking in something…never quite enough.

Many have felt this way; young and old. Children at times feel like they are not enough because no matter what they do or how hard they try, their parents always want more…never once showing their pride and pleasure towards their child’s efforts. Husbands and wives at times discover their spouse has a younger lover and the sinking feeling of inadequacy sets in as they ask themselves what it is the other has been able to offer that they can not. In relationships too, when one’s partner always seems to be searching for more…perhaps never outrightly saying it, but showing it in their lack of attention and lack of time for their partner; their constant dissatisfaction with their partner. Other times, the dissatisfaction stems from within

No matter what the situation- school, work, relationships- one could find themselves feeling inadequate, constantly trying again and again to be enough, to do more, to be more. Craving even an ounce of acceptance, of satisfaction. Yet still, hard as they try, it never seems to be enough.

What we do not realise is that one’s dissatisfaction does not make us less worthy or less adequate. One’s dissatisfaction ultimately has everything to do with themselves and almost nothing to do with us. Therefore, spaces where we feel inadequate, unappreciated, unloved…need to be re-evaluated. It could mean having an honest conversation with the other person, ending the relationship or, it could also call for some introspection.

And so,

If you ever find yourself constantly fighting for attention, space, appreciation…perhaps that space is not for you. If you find yourself constantly feeling inadequate… perhaps that space is not for you.

And always remember; that you are, always have been and always will be more than enough.
