If you could have any super power, what would it be?
My younger self would have quickly responded, without hesitation that she would love to have the power of invisibility. That way she could do anything without being seen. Or maybe, the power to travel wherever she wanted without any restrictions whatsoever. Of late, I have found myself pondering on this question. What super power would I pick? After much thought, I settled on forgiveness. The ability to unconditionally forgive would be one of my choice super powers.
Often times, we find it easier to shelter ourselves in anger, hatred, loathing. It is much easier to take comfort in these than to forgive. As a result, we lose precious relationships time and again. With others, with ourselves. Our hearts become weary as a result of sheltering these toxic feelings. See, forgiveness requires bravery, kindness. Forgiveness is an act of charity to others but even more to ourselves. Forgiveness is not for the fainthearted, it is not an easy thing to do.
However, it is possible for us to constantly try time and again to forgive. To practise this act of charity, to allow ourselves this kindness. Maybe super powers are not a reality, but, if you commit to practising forgiveness, unconditional forgiveness, then you undoubtedly are a hero.
